003 Kinematic Influences: Coupled Motion

Coupled motion between the talus and the tibia

The talus is the link between the foot and the lower leg. Any movement of the hip is translated to the tibia and through the talus as subtalar joint motion. This subtalar joint motion is then translated to the distal foot.

This coupled motion is how our foot and lower extremity is able to:

  • Transfer kinetic energy with each step we take
  • Absorb ground reaction forces with each step we take
  • Become a mobile adaptor with each step we take

Talus/Calcaneus and moving up
