Introduction to Kinesiology

Definition:  Kinesiology is the branch of physiology that studies mechanics and anatomy in relation to human movement.

One important dimension of human movement that is important to effective practice for health-fitness professionals involves the Planes of movement and Axes of rotation. Understanding human movement from this perspective allows you to create more balanced programming and properly assess movement deficiencies. A thorough understanding of the Planes of motion and Axes of rotation is critical foundational knowledge upon which a basic understanding of movement is built. This leads to a higher level of effective professional practice.
