020 Frontal Axis
- The frontal axis is also referred to as the lateral or coronal axis.
- It intersects the sagittal plane at a right angle. If the sagittal plane
runs from front to back, then the frontal axis must run from side to side to
intersect the frontal plane at a right angle. You may want to memorize that
the frontal axis runs side to side like the frontal plane intersecting the
sagittal plane. Movement in the sagittal plane is around the frontal axis of
rotation.
- As the elbow flexes and extends in the sagittal plane, it is actually rotating around the frontal axis.
